LOUIS RIEL - Co-production Opportunity

In 1967, Harry Somers’ opera, Louis Riel, was produced by the Canadian Opera Company for Canada’s centennial. The Canadian Opera mounted it again in 1975, and in 1976 the COC, with the cooperation of the government of Canada, offered it to the United States to honor its bicentennial celebrations at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. There it was received with outstanding reviews.

It has been 35 years since this hallmark Canadian opera was seen and heard in Canada. Malabar would like to invite the participation of any number of opera companies to re-mount this fabulous piece. Malabar will create the costumes for all characters in the show, and guarantee costumes for all participating companies, notwithstanding variations in size or numbers.

Malabar will participate with opera companies in deciding on a production team of director and designer. Interested parties please contact Louis Nosko, Opera Department Manager at 416-534-0466.
